Blank Family Adventure

Aling Aling Waterfall in Bali, Indonesia

Our Family Experience at Aling Aling

We got loaded up and headed out on our scooters to Aling Aling Waterfall! Driving through the busy streets of town we turned off the main road and headed up towards the mountains. Winding up the road, there is shops, homes, warungs and rice terraces. Then the rain starts to come down upon us, so we turn into a little shop for cover from the rain. Meanwhile waiting for the rain to stop, a local man gave us some branches of rambutans. The spikey red fruit that you split in half and suck out the clearish oval fruit. We tell him Suksama (thank you), realizing that the rain has stopped.

We load back on the mopeds and take the winding narrow road up to the waterfall. It rains a touch here and there, as a result splashing water onto my face. We turn the corner and arrive at the ticket office to the waterfalls. They tell us there is to much rain and the water is rushing to strong so we can only look and see two waterfalls. Because of this we also can’t do the natural waterslides or jumps. We sit at the little cafe, watching the rain drizzle off and on and contemplate on what to do. After some thought we decided to head back home and come back the next morning. Back at home, instead of hitting waterfalls we devour dragonfruit on the balcony.

Second Try at Aling Aling

The following morning we got up and called the employees at the waterfall. They say it’s good right now and recommend we come soon, as it does rain often in the afternoons. Just a heads up, we visited in January which is the rainy season in Bali. So we pack up and head out again. This time hoping to beat the rain and have a fun day chasing waterfalls. We arrive and buy our tickets, $35(500,000 rupiahs) for us 4 and they assign us two guides. We take a short hike and arrive at the first jump, Kroya waterfall and water slide.

Hiking down to the waterfalls.
Read this before you jump!

Of course Eliana jumps off the 5 meter jump and climbs to the higher waterslide and is zipping down before we know it.

I’m getting ready to jump while Eliana zips down Kroya Waterfall slide.

Kroya Waterfall Slide & Jump

I’m to scared to jump and my leg is shaking. I know that I want to jump, I just can’t make myself. Certainly staring into the churning water does not help either. Finally the guide recommends that I relax, look straight ahead and then jump. So I try that. With my hands and legs shaking, I jump off the high platform into the cold water. In short it feels so good and I’m glad I jumped.

The current from the waterfall moves my body quickly. I swim to the other side and climb out. A short little climb and I’m at the spot to slide down. More fun and crazies. I get over my fear and climb into the water. The guide is holding the back of my life jacket and informs me how to put my legs and arms. Water is rushing all around me at a high rate. He lets go and I fly down the 32 foot (10 meter) slide dropping into the deep water below. Then we floated downstream to do the small little slide with Maximus.

Kember Waterfalls

After the fun little slide, Next up is a 32 foot jump into the wrath of a double fall. Kembar Waterfalls! Eliana had one look and decided nope not me. Likewise after it taking me so long on the 16 Ft jump I was fine not even attempting the 32ft jump. But of course Cody did and had a blast.

Pucuk Waterfall

After that I hiked down to the bottom of Pucuk Waterfall to film Cody jumping from the approximately 49 foot jump. It was a beautiful waterfall with greenery surrounding it. Down where I went was a fun little rock island for the kids to play at. Of course Cody jumped that one also but didn’t cross his legs good enough and got smacked down there. If you know what I mean. But he was fine after a couple minutes. Next we headed back up to the main area and jumped and slided some more before hiking to somewhere that no one dared jump in.

Aling Aling Waterfall

We took a short hike to the big main waterfall! Aling Aling Waterfall! It was rushing and is an astounding 98 feet tall. It is deemed holy water Therefore we could not swim in it. It’s such a majestic sight to see. We got some pictures, took in the views and then hiked back up to the parking area. I would highly recommend visiting the Aling Aling waterfall and Sambangan Village. There is different lengths of trekking and you can also just take the short trek to visit the waterfalls and not do the slides and jumps. Either way you will feel fully immersed in the jungle with lush green foliage and beautiful waterfalls all around.

Aling Aling Waterfall Information

When you arrive there is a small ticket office where you buy your tickets. Its a fixed price for everyone. To clarify at Aling Aling it’s not a rip off and very worth it. (other places we visited they try to rip you off)

There is a few options for experiencing Aling Aling waterfall and Sambangan gardens. For about $1 (10,000 Rupiah) you can do the self-guided tour of the different waterfalls and just go on a walk through the area. Above all there is no swimming or jumping allowed without a guide. We chose the $9 (125,000 Rupiahs) option which is a guided tour down to the waterfalls including swimming and cliff jumping. They assigned us two guides and they did an absolute amazing job. They even held Baby Scarlett so that we could all swim and have fun together as a family. Both guides were so patient and told us we could do the slides and jumps again an again.

Accommodation and Transport Options

We were staying in Singaraja at GM Hotel Lovina which was a decent budget hotel. It was about a 20 minute drive to Aling Aling Waterfalls. We were renting mopeds for about $3(40,000) a day per moped, which included helmets. It was a great deal but we also were negotiating for two moped’s and multiple days at a time. We did buy Scarlett a baby helmet from a shop for about $5(65,000 rupiahs). For example we heard from many that $4(60,000 rupiahs) per moped per a day is a great deal.
