Camp Coffee, A Guide to the best cup!

One reason not to skip coffee while camping.

As we are camping with the family, having coffee around camp is a must. And it’s a great and wonderful way to start the day. One time we skipped our morning coffee, thinking it would be fine to have it later in the day. Oh my I paid for that.

By late afternoon I had a headache and it was not improving. Then we got back to camp and started dinner and coffee. I was snappy and my head was pounding. It was just to late to reverse it now. I crawled into the tent and Cody and the kids finished everything up for the night.

That’s one reason why I love to enjoy my coffee around the campfire while we are camping!

The Aeropress is great at making an amazing cup of strong coffee. The set up comes with everything you need to achieve the best cup. A funnel so you get the grounds into the press without loosing any precious coffee. Then a stir stick to mix the hot water and coffee perfectly. We let it sit for 4 minutes and afterwards press firmly and evenly. The dynamic set up presses air and creates the perfect cup of coffee. And if it’s a little strong for your liking just add a dash of hot water, like an americano.

A kettle is so nice to use at camp as it’s strictly for drinks and mainly water. There is no mixing with butter or bacon grease. And then regretting we didn’t scrub the pot ourselves. As our kids do a good amount of the dishes.

We got these cool hydro flask cups, they hold 16 ounces and keep our coffee hot for a considerable amount of time. I always struggled with my coffee staying hot while I slowly drank it. And the Hydro Flask cups work like the bomb. I love how my coffee stays hot for a long time, almost till I’m done. Cody loves how it does not need a lid while drinking and still stays hot. He hates his nose bumping into the lid, as his nose is extremely sensitive.

Flavor of coffee and additions

We have always enjoyed Sumatra coffee and have tried a few brands. It’s smooth and delicious. It’s grown on the the Sunda Islands, they are a group of islands along the coast of Western Indonesia. Sumatra Island being the largest island in the group. Sumatra is a dark Roast that’s full bodied and robust. A lingering flavor of dried herbs and fresh earth, with almost no acidity.

I don’t have sugar in my coffee but Cody enjoys his with a little sugar. These Sugar in the raw packets work great. They add just the right amount of sweetness for him to really enjoy his coffee. Now I do like a little splash of whole milk or half & half with my coffee. It gives it a great creaminess. Even thou at times it’s super smooth just black.

We always enjoy sitting down to sip our coffee, and having a great camp chair is such a plus. Having quick easy chairs for camp is perfect. It’s the bomb to chill and unwind after cooking breakfast.
